Good afternoon, I am the Automotive Mechanic here at the Central Texas Department of Veterans Affairs. I am reaching out related to promotions. I was wondering if a member of could investigate something for me in reference to WG8 step 4 vs WG10 step 1. I originally accepted my current position as an Automotive Worker WG8 mid-January 2018 and officially started on 4 March 2018. I have gone through the process and time as a WG8 from 1-2-3 and now currently a WG8 step 4. I recently won my appeal for my desk audit with VACO, which now promotes me to an Automotive Mechanic WG10 instead of an Automotive Worker WG8. I am literally about to hit step WG8 step 5 within the next 2-3 weeks and the letter from VACO stating it will be effective within the next 4 pay periods. I was wondering if someone would know if this promotion be a WG10 step 1 or 2, since I nearly completed the required time for WG8 step 5 and that a WG8 step 5 pay is more than a WG10 step 1. I would be greatly disappointed to have wasted 2 years to finally achieve step 5 just to get a promotion to WG10 step 1 and barley come ahead compared to a WG8 step 5. I would really appreciate if someone could let me know something official vs hearsay from local management or supervisors who really don’t have a solid answer. My local managers and HR said they submitted a new SF50 to EOPF, but I have not seen it update online. I would appreciate any assistance or answers with this, please let me know thanks.
